about

Tchaikovsky's three symphonic works on this CD have a different kind of attraction than his piano works. Full of majesty, passion, sadness and elegance, they form, together with other programmatic compositions, a very important part of Tchaikovsky's cultural heritage. For me the feeling was essential, when interpreting these three works, that Tchaikovsky shows his emotions so honestly.
As far as I know, there is no piano transcription of theater music at Hamlet. My transcription is therefore a premiere. There are piano versions of De Schone Slaapster and of Romeo and Juliet, respectively by A. Siloti and C. Bial. But those are piano reductions to get to know the music; they are not meant to perform on stage. Michail Pletnev did make a piano version for a concert performance by De Schone Slaapster, but with other parts from the ballet, except for one part. My suite transcribes Tchaikovsky's orchestra suite.
That is why I have made transcripts myself. My intention was to preserve the music and still make it pianistic enough so that it can exist as independent piano works.
